Development Projects

ShipConstructor Software Inc. (SSI) has a history of developing innovative products and features. At any one time, we are working on initiatives in-house and with strategic partners around the world to continue to bring our customers new and innovative tools.

ShipConstructor Development

In-house, SSI is concentrating efforts on the construction of:

P&ID

ShipConstructor Software Inc. (SSI) is pursuing integration of AutoCAD P&ID with ShipConstructor's Piping module. The integration will provide a mechanism for using piping schematics, created in AutoCAD P&ID, as task lists for the piping modeled in ShipConstructor. By automating communication between design and production, it will also provide the ability to detect when the engineering schematics and 3D model diverge. These advancements facilitate concurrent engineering by reducing errors and checking overhead.

Project Equipment List

As part of the ShipConstructor Electrical module. ShipConstructor Software Inc. (SSI) has been developing a powerful new tool for managing vessel equipment, the Project Equipment List. Currently, equipment lists are managed using one or more excel spreadsheets which are easily lost or duplicated and are not integrated with the production model. The Project Equipment List will provide the ability to manage vessel equipment in one location and leverage equipment attributes and information throughout 3D model design and production.

Through an SBIR (Small Business Innovation Research)-funded project, ShipConstructor has collaborated with industry leader SKM Systems Analysis Inc. on the Shipboard Electrical Analysis Production (SEA-Pro) project. SEA-Pro is a software interface for synchronizing data between the Project Equipment List and SKM Power Tools, an industry leading power system design and analysis tool. This interface automates communication between design and production, reducing errors and checking overhead, and facilitates concurrent engineering.

Electrical Module

The development of an integrated electrical design and production package is being pursued on two fronts:

The Shipboard Electrical Analysis and Production (SEA-Pro) project is a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) project, which is targeted towards integrating the SKM electrical analysis package from SKM, with ShipConstructor to provide an end-to-end design, analysis and production package.

As an extension of the Second Tier Shipyard Design Enhancement Program (STSDEP) National Shipbuilding Research Program (NSRP) project, ShipConstructor Software USA Inc. (SSI USA) has been awarded funding to produce a software specification describing an electrical design and production package, which is to be fully integrated with ShipConstructor.

STEP - Industrial Planning Technology

ShipConstructor Software Inc. (SSI) has been working with Industrial Planning Technology (IPT) since late 2005 on the development of a translator that will enable ShipConstructor to import and export STEP files containing pipe, HVAC, and equipment data. This technology will significantly enhance ShipConstructor’s interoperability in large shipyard environments, allow organizations to access legacy data more easily, and simplify the long term storage and retrieval of archival product model data throughout the entire product lifecycle.

FEA for PLM - Martec

We have been working with Martec to integrate their Finite Element Analysis (FEA) with ShipConstructor. Martec is developing this product for the Canadian Navy in an effort to support structural life cycle management for its fleet. This product allows users to extract an up-to-date FEA model directly from the ShipConstructor model at various levels of detail depending on the purpose of the FEA calculations. Currently, the project is in the preliminary stages and rudimentary models have been extracted from ShipConstructor.

ShipLift - Noran Engineering

The U.S. Navy, through the Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) program, has funded phase I of the collaborative effort between Noran Engineering, Inc., a leading developer of NEi Nastran finite element analysis (FEA) software, and SSI, to develop the program, that will solve a major production problem in shipyards: safe, distortion and damage-free lifting and handling of ship components during construction. The new software, code-named ShipLift, will automatically calculate the proper pick up points and maintain a digital knowledge base. Based on the build strategy, ShipLift will extract the correct 3D model for NEi Nastran FEA to analyze the model for stresses and strains on the plates, sub-assemblies and full assemblies.

Without a doubt ShipConstructor has more bang for the dollar than the competitors. They have all been here and we will not switch.
