Strategic collaboration boosts Brazil’s shipbuilding industry

Brazil’s Estaleiro Atlântico Sul (EAS), currently building the largest shipyard in the southern hemisphere, has chosen ShipConstructor 2008 software to design and construct their first order of ten Suezmax tankers as well as the construction of the Hull for the P-55 semi-sub production platform, representing a total order value of US$1.6 billion in Transpetro/Petrobras contracts, Rolf O. Oetter, President and CEO, ShipConstructor Inc., announced today.

ShipConstructor 2008 was recommended as the software of choice by Sincronia, a Brazilian IT consultancy and system integrator for the offshore and shipbuilding sectors. Contracted by EAS, Sincronia conducted extensive technical reviews of leading software solutions in order to find the most compatible system to meet EAS’s requirement for cutting-edge technology. “ShipConstructor was our clear first choice. The software’s competitive advantages include its extensive, highly flexible CAD/CAM-based functionalities, easy-to-learn-and-use program, unparalleled customer support and competitive pricing,” said Bruno França, Managing Director, Sincronia.

“ShipConstructor 2008 will allow us to quickly train our staff and set up a fully operational 3D CAD/CAM concurrent engineering environment, a fundamental need for our demanding project and production schedules”, said Reiqui Abe, EAS Industrial Director.
The Suezmax vessels are part of a batch of 26 ships to be built in the first phase of the Programme of Modernization and expansion of the fleet of Transpetro, a subsidiary of Petrobras.

The P-55 semi-sub production platform being built for Petrobras has a production capacity of 180.000 barrels per day, and is destined to be anchored at the Roncador field at a depth of 1.790m, located within the Bacia de Campos. The P-55 hull construction alone will consume 21.000 tons of steel.
