Project Highlights
Genoa Design International and Aker Marine of Canada chose ShipConstructor to design and production plan this first Common Structural Rules (CSR) tanker to be built in the United States. ShipConstructor was the software of choice for several reasons:
- The ability to accommodate the project's modular construction approach. Because the target price could not be met using a single shipbuilding location, the vessel's design was divided into distinct modules for production at several yards. This strategy required a comprehensive, technically-advanced, AutoCAD-based, 3D software system that all parties could use, view in real time and easily handle design changes.
- The wide range of customizable tools (such as user interaction, data modeling, production output) to accommodate specific classification standards. The AHL tankers are the first Jones Act new-builds classed by the American Bureau of Shipping under the Common Structural Rules adopted by the International Association of Classification Societies.
- The proven track record. Genoa Design's President Leonard Pecore chose ShipConstructor at the outset because "this project required the most reliable, flexible, state-of-the-art software technology to help ensure that we exceeded our client's expectations on this large project. We have a long history with ShipConstructor and trust in the software's ability to deliver."
Guido Perla is using ShipConstructor to production engineer a 3D product model for lofting, piping, HVAC and electrical systems for the tanker's deckhouse for Jamestown Metal Marine Sales of Boca Raton, Florida, one of the three yards involved in building the three vessels.
Construction on the ships began in January 2008 for Texas-based AHL Shipping Company . They are scheduled for long-term time charter to Shell Trading USA by late 2009.
