Project Highlights
The launching
of the Tay Son, a 12,500-tonne ship, at HaLong Shipyard
marked the completion of the first of eight ships
ordered by the Vietnam Maritime Corporation. Built at a
cost of over US$10 million, the vessel measures 136.4m
in length, spans 20.2m, and has a depth of 11.3m. HaLong used ShipConstructor software to produce the Tay
Son to exacting specifications on time and under budget.
3D Hull Surface Modeling – HaLong
used ShipCAM to loft and fair the hull surface,
resulting in a smooth surface and an offset table of the
highest quality. ShipCAM was also used for pin-jig
drawings and for plate expansion, providing not only the
expanded plate with all markings, but also form
templates, dimensional control drawings with
deformations between frames, complete with coloured
strain maps. This powerful functionality will be
available inside of AutoCAD as part of the new Hull
module, released in ShipConstructor 2005.
High Accuracy - The Structure
module was used to model and detail the internal
structure for nesting and 3D assembly drawings. HaLong
credits this module for helping them to produce the Tay
Son’s structure with the highest accuracy.
Efficient Material Usage – HaLong relied on
AutomaticNest to nest all the parts of the ship
structure according to the available material stocks
which saved significantly on the amount of materials
used.
Time Savings – Using NC-Pyros, HaLong automatically
created NC-code for CNC cutting, saving man-hours and
easing production. The Pipe and Equipment provided spool
drawings and piping diagrams for pipe arrangements of
all the systems, reducing the time needed for pipe
production and assembly.
Substantial Reduction in Production Time and Costs – By
implementing ShipConstructor, HaLong experienced a
45-50% reduction in production time, and a 30-35%
savings in production costs.
