Project Highlights
Complex Hull Plating Expansion - Miho Shipyard,
Shizuoka, Japan is well known for their capability to
build high standard fishing vessels that the Japanese
fishing industry operate worldwide. Due to years of hull
form development, a typical Japanese fishing vessel hull
has a very complex mix of concave and convex surfaces.
In this regard, Miho has employed highly skilled yard
workers to take care of the complex plate forming using
the line-heating technique. But, the shipyard is facing
a generation change in the design department that has
been dependant upon hand lofting shell plate expansion
for a long time. The shipyard asked for Yakushiji
Industry (ShipConstructor dealer for Japan) for help in
updating to the new generation of 3D CAD/CAM lofting for
hull plate expansion. ShipConstructor’s ShipCAM/Hull
module provides the younger generation design team with
a tool that can produce the same highly accurate
expanded plating and template data to meet the ship
owner's expectations.
Accurate Vessel Product Model - The design team of
Miho Shipyard is in the process of migrating to the 3D
CAD/CAM solution, provided by ShipConstructor, with
technical support from Yakushiji Industry. Although
Yakushiji Industry has assisted with major engineering
work for the two sister fishing vessels, Miho Shipyard
are expecting the new ShipConstructor 2006 version to
make it “easy to create 3D product models and production
drawings using the new DDROM technology.” Since
incorporating a new solution in hull plate expansion
with ShipConstructor, Miho Shipyard feels more capable,
as the potential for accurate 3D product models to
increase and enhance their shipbuilding skill and
production rate allows them to compete on the worldwide
market.
