Project Highlights
The innovative port feeder barge is
a self contained, cost effective alternative to road
trucking, an increasing concern throughout ports around
the world. The self propelled 168 TEU vessel is of a
double-ended configuration and is equipped with its own
40 tonne capacity crane. It shall ply between the
various terminals in order to shift the intra-terminal
box transport from road to waterway.
Design Time Savings – The design of
the port feeder barge is very straightforward in terms
of hull and structural requirements, compared to
SCHIFFKO’s bigger container vessel designs. It is the
ease-of-use of ShipConstructor's structural module which
was a big reason for SCHIFFKO to choose ShipConstructor
as the design tool for this project, especially with the
level of skill and competency they have gained using the
module for previous projects. Utilising a double-ended
configuration further decreased design time on the
project by being able to base the design of both ends of
the vessel on one half of the design and virtually
mirror one end.
Confidence in Initial and Future
Use – So confident in ShipConstructor's ability as a top
level design and production tool, SCHIFFKO chose to use
ShipConstructor without hesitation on this “first of a
kind” project. They have also shown confidence in the
future of the project by obtaining international patents
for the design of the vessel, ensuring that all future
construction of this vessel type are produced based on
ShipConstructor models.
