Updates

• New Labeling Feature in R2.4 - Read this before updating
• Your database must be updated using Administrator if you are updating from R2.3.2 or lower.
  
• If you are updating from 2.1.7 or lower then this update must be applied to your license server.
  
• If you are updating from version R2.3 or earlier and your project contains Twisted Stiffeners we recommend that you carry out following procedure after updating:
  
  1. Open up a Structure Planar Group Model Drawing that does not contain Twisted Stiffeners
  2. Run the command SCCLEANALLTWISTEDSTIFFENERS - the default tolerance is your production tolerance and should be fine
  3. Check over any parts reported in the log file.
  This procedure will correct any geometry in your Twisted Stiffeners that may cause issues during expansion. If you have nests that have not been cut yet we recommend that after upgrading to ShipConstructor R2.3.2 and running the SCCLEANALLTWISTEDSTIFFENERS command you update all your Stiffener, Faceplate and Twisted Stiffener parts in your nest drawings to ensure the most valid and correct results.

Please be aware that ShipConstructor 2005 and ShipConstructor 2006 are NOT compatible with AutoCAD 2007. If you are thinking of upgrading your AutoCAD version, please wait until the release of ShipConstructor 2008 this summer. This new version of our software will be compatible with both AutoCAD 2007 and AutoCAD 2008.

There may be a problem for ShipConstructor users wishing to purchase a new AutoCAD license. Fewer and fewer AutoCAD dealers are selling AutoCAD 2006, as AutoCAD 2007 is now their primary product.

For now, after discussion with Autodesk, we recommend the following procedure for purchasing AutoCAD 2006:

1. purchase AutoCAD 2007 with the normal subscription
2. submit a formal request to Autodesk to additionally receive AutoCAD 2006

This is a straightforward process within Autodesk, and because you have purchased a subscription you will be able to update to AutoCAD 2007 without hassle when ShipConstructor 2008 is released.

We apologize if this causes any inconvenience. ShipConstructor and Autodesk are working hard to better synchronize future software releases.

TechNotes (White Paper)

In our effort to communicate better with our users, we implemented with ShipConstructor 2006 our innovative new TechNotes system. Every new version of ShipConstructor will be accompanied by a TechNotes file displayed upon first run. Using HTML format, it will provide concise information as well as links to:

• detailed descriptions about new features
• training videos on new features
• key practices for 'best uses'
• resolved issues

Don't miss out on new features! New features are not only introduced with the next big software release, but every single update we publish includes new features and functionalities. Please check often for our regular updates.

***IMPORTANT - This update should only be installed if you intend to run ShipConstructor 2005 and ShipConstructor 2006 concurrently. If you are not planning to, then this update is not necessary or recommended.

Issue Addressed
ShipConstructor 2005 versions 1.27.6 and older run the ARLLicenseServer service to host licenses, this service cannot be run concurrently with the SConLicenseServer service introduced by ShipConstructor 2006 R2 release.
To resolve this issue support has been added to ShipConstructor 2005 with update 1.28 that allows ShipConstructor 2005 to use the new SConLicenseServer service and which removes the ARLLicenseServer Service.

Installation
The ShipConstructor 2005 1.28 update can be applied to ShipConstructor 2005 installations, but it is recommended that it be installed only if the client is intending to run ShipConstructor 2005 and ShipConstructor 2006 R2 concurrently.

This update must be applied to ShipConstructor 2005 AFTER ShipConstructor 2006 R2 has been installed to prevent conflicts with the license server installation.

1. Check your current version of ShipConstructor 2005
   *You can see the current version of SC2005 in the About dialog (menu ShipConstructor->About ShipConstructor, the Release Version indicates your current installed version)
2. If you are not running version 1.27.6; Download and install the 1.27.6 update
3. Install ShipConstructor 2006 R2 from the R2 installation CD
4. Download and install the 1.28 update
